Showing trust, respect and care for one another is one of our Guiding Principles at Republic Airways. We’re driven to use our time, talent and treasure to help others – children, in particular – as a strong supporter of nonprofit and charitable organizations that benefit the health and well-being of today’s youth. Our biggest fundraiser is our annual Plane Pull, an epic tug-of-war with a 24-ton aircraft that has raised nearly $3 million for children’s hospitals and charities since 2011. Our key partners for this event include Indiana Children’s Wish Fund, Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital/Ascension, Riley Children’s Foundation and A Kid Again.
9th Annual Republic Airways Plane Pull
On April 13, 2019, the 9th annual Plane Pull at our Indianapolis hangar drew nearly 50 teams and raised $425,000 for our partner beneficiaries. More than 1,500 people turned for the event, which featured a kids zone with bounce houses and games; celebrities including Super Bowl and Colts legend Gary Brackett and Samaritan’s Feet founder Manny Ohonme; displays of aircraft and airport emergency equipment; food by major sponsors including Dunkin’, Pepsi and White Castle; and our popular LIFT Lab, where visitors use virtual reality goggles, grab the yoke and try their hand at a flight simulator experience. Also on hand: two dozen costumed Star Wars characters from the local chapter of the 501st and Rebel Legion group, as well as aviation superhero Aviore, a Stan Lee character created for EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association).
New this year: The aircraft used in the competition featured Republic’s new livery as well as a ceremonial pull of the LIFT Academy’s 2,700-pound Diamond DA-42 trainer by children. “It’s never too early to start recruiting the next generation of pilots,” said lead event organizer Amy Arnell, Republic’s director of Corporate and Community Responsibility.
Each year, our event gets bigger and better, and that’s due largely to our army of selfless Associates, volunteers and generous sponsors. April 18, 2020, is our 10th anniversary event, and it is sizing up to be the best one yet. Be sure to join us!
