Hard work and dedication are required to advance your career as a Pilot. If you are not given the opportunities to advance, it becomes even harder. At Republic Airways, we want our Pilots to get ahead, but it’s up to the Pilot to take advantage of our support. We sat down with Brennen Horton, Manager, Pilot Talent Acquisition & Programs, to discuss why Republic is so invested in Pilot career progression and how to make the most of it.
Brennen speaks with a lot of Pilots, and there’s one recurring question he hears most often: “What does growth look like at Republic Airways?” He always has the same response: “What does growth look like to you?” For Brennen, posing this one question to the Pilot is the first step toward their success. “Republic does a great job of recognizing that advancing a career is unique to each Pilot,” Brennen explains. “We have a lot of opportunities for Pilots. Let’s talk about it and find the ones that make sense for you.”
Some Pilots want to be involved in leadership. Brennen points them to our Pilot Mentorship programs where they can share their wisdom. Some Pilots want to train the next generation of aviators, so he explains that our Training Department features in-house instructors and active Pilots. Some Pilots are passionate about safety. There’s the Safety Committee. Wherever a Pilot’s passion lies, Republic has an opportunity to get involved and grow. For Brennen, it’s simple, “If you’re passionate about something, we help.”
Success doesn’t just fall in your lap. It takes work. No matter how many advancement opportunities you may have, without action, they can be wasted. “As an individual, you can’t always control the circumstances, but you can control your response,” says Brennen. “Choose to take action.”
Brennen defines opportunity as “a set of experiences that make it possible to grow.” It takes the right person to make the most of the support and opportunities Pilots can find at Republic Airways. “If you’re willing to see what’s out there and fill a need, then the sky is the limit.”
You might wonder why Republic puts so much emphasis on a culture of support and growth. And the number one reason is that we want to do right by our team. When our people succeed, our partners succeed, and Republic succeeds. According to Brennen, “These investments benefit everyone.”
It starts by benefiting our people, giving them the tools they need to succeed and steer their career where they want it to go. Our codeshare partners, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, benefit too. They don’t have to worry about flights contracted to Republic because of the trust built over 50 years of operation. Republic Airways succeeds because our relationships with our partners get stronger, our team improves and our metrics continue to outpace the competition.
