Get the Tools to Succeed in Aircraft Maintenance Jobs

If you love airplanes but don’t aspire to become a pilot, you’ve probably wondered about what kind of aircraft maintenance jobs or aircraft technician jobs are available, what it’s like to be an aircraft mechanic and how do you qualify? We can answer all those questions!

First, aircraft maintenance or aircraft technician jobs are referred to as Aviation Maintenance Technicians, or AMTs for short. Republic Airways AMTs are given the tools and training to succeed in an exciting career field. First, let’s start where all good AMTs start: with world-class training.

Two Ways to Train at Republic

Republic offers AMTs two pathways to becoming an AMT.

  1. The RJet Maintenance Cadet Program. Students pursuing their Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification can receive a conditional offer of employment with Republic Airways once they’ve completed 400 hours of training. The RJet Cadet program is the ideal transition from classroom to AMT. To qualify, individuals must be currently enrolled in a Part 147 approved program, be eligible to work in the U.S. and have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  2. The AMT Apprentice Program. Earn while you learn! Republic’s AMT Apprentices work alongside world-class AMTs while completing on-the-job training. Upon successful completion of the 30-month commitment and A&P exams, participants will have a guaranteed job offer with Republic as a certified AMT. In addition to hourly pay, Apprentices receive benefits and payment/reimbursement for all exam and licensing fees for FAA A&P certificates and cover for all training expenses.

What Does an AMT Do?

As we say at Republic, what our AMTs do on the ground keeps us in the air! Our AMTs play a vital role in the safe transportation of our passengers and crew. After receiving paid training, which includes housing and a meal stipend, at our world-class Aviation Campus, our AMTs work tip-to-tail on our fleet of ultra-modern Embraer 170/175s as well as our technologically advanced fleet of Diamond DA 40s and DA42s at our flight training school, LIFT Academy.

Our culture of safety is second to none, and our AMTs play a crucial role in safeguarding our record. We have been recognized with the FAA’s Diamond Award of Excellence over 22 times. It is the highest recognition for maintenance technicians that the FAA offers.

A Career That Can Take You Places

In addition to having flight privileges with our three airline partners — American, Delta and United – to fly anywhere in the globe for free or greatly reduced fares, Republic AMTs are offered professional and personal growth opportunities and performance bonuses. We encourage our maintenance technicians to pursue additional certifications or degrees that can allow them to explore career progression in the hangar or within management.

In addition, our AMTs have the opportunity to work at one of our 10 U.S. base locations. As we said, being an AMT – or in layperson’s terms an “aircraft mechanic” – means you see more than the underside of an airplane or the inside of a hangar. Republic AMTs have the opportunity to learn, grow and see the world!
