The Turbo-Prop Era 1973-1998 Chautauqua First Flight

1973

Chautauqua Airlines founded

Chautauqua Airlines founded in Jamestown, NY, by Joel and Gloria Hall to operate under a codeshare agreement with Allegheny Airlines operating as Allegheny Commuter.

Initial scheduled operations from Jamestown to Buffalo, NY, and Pittsburgh, PA, were started with two new 15-passenger Beech 99 aircraft.


1984

5 aircraft added

The airline adds five new 19-passenger Fairchild Metro III aircraft to its fleet.


1986

Chautauqua Airlines purchased by GAC

Later that year, the airline entered into an agreement with Saab Aircraft of America for the purchase of 12 30-passenger Saab 340 aircraft to replace the slower Shorts 3-30’s.


May 8, 1994

Renewal of US Airways codeshare agreement

The new agreement includes a route realignment that requires corporate headquarters relocation to Indianapolis, IN, to better support its growing operation.


May 15, 1998

Wexford Capital, LLC purchases Chautauqua Airlines
